New here? Or been here a while and still not sure how things work?
As a community Web site most of the site is open for every user to update/alter. And the more everyone gets involved the better the site can be.
First step: Join the site. Register (it's free) and create a profile. Your profile will always by found at the top of "My Page." You can change it at any time. "My Page" is customizable and you can choose a new layout to spice things up as well.
Second: Explore the main page.
- Events: The newest feature of the Web site. Right above the calender of events there is a new section for big events. This makes it easier for people to promote and remember about a large event. Please keep it local (Santa Fe is local). Anyone can make an event and it will stay on the top of the main page until it is over.
- Calender of Events: You'll find a main calender in the center of the page. This calender is linked to a Google calender only administrators have control of. BUT we'll make changes whenever notified. If something is wrong or needs to be added, let us know!
- Blog Posts: Right below the calender of events you'll see a list of blog posts. Every member can add to this. Go to your page ("My Page") click on "My Blog" at the top of your page. Then click on "Add New Blog Post" and you're in business. Every blog post will appear on the main page though so please keep things dance related.
- Video: Below the blog posts are a few videos. Anyone can upload a dance video to share with the community.
- Photos: In the left hand column you can't miss the slide-show of photos. This pulls directly from everyone's uploaded photos, in the reverse order of uploading. So newest comes first and oldest upload comes last. We all like to see photos of ourselves dancing so put them up!
- Forum: Under photos you'll find the forum feed. This is only the tip of the iceberg for our forum. The topics on the main page are those that have the most recent activity. The rest of the topics are under the "Forum" tab on the top of your screen. Any member can create a discussion or comment on another. Please take part in these discussions. Once again, the more involved we all are, the better the site.
- Groups: On the right hand column under the ads and "About Duke City Dancing" (both which administrators can't even change) you'll find thumbnails of groups. Groups are useful to communicate to a group of people on the site. For example, in Albuquerque Bar Hoppers Dance Society we generally send out an E-mail to everyone when we're planning on going out. There is a "Send Message to Group" that works very well. Every group then has their own mini Web site to talk about whatever they want.
- Latest Activity: Under groups you'll see a feed of all the newest updates to the site.
Third: A few more tabs on the top.
- Links: All kinds of dance and music links.
- About: General info about the Web site and link to this page.
- Contact: How to contact the administrators.
That's all! ENJOY! ENJOY!
